When we created Curly Cuts, we set out to establish more than just a curly salon. We wanted to develop an honest and structured price list to give our customers clarity and choice. Our goal was simple: provide curlies with upfront pricing so they could decide what to spend—no surprises at the till.
I’m not in the curly hair industry to take advantage of anyone. Curly Cuts was born to prevent curlies from being ripped off because this kind of salon was needed.
A true curly cut, with each curl being cut individually using hands ( NOT combing or brushing out the curls before cutting), is completely different from the traditional methods taught in our hair apprenticeship. The pricing reflects the time, as this takes much longer.

Some “curly hairdressers” will have completed newer certified training and spent the money; others will not and will be just cutting as taught in trade school but love curly hair, so they call themselves curly specialists. Anyone can use the words “curl by curl” cutting or call themselves a curly hair specialist. BEWARE, and do your homework before booking and investing your precious dollars.

Why Curly Cuts Take Longer—and Cost More
Hairdressing services should always be priced based on the time they take. For instance, a quick, traditional haircut in a chain salon might take only 15-20 minutes, and that’s what you’re charged for. It makes sense—the salon needs to make a certain amount of money per hour, so faster cuts should be priced lower to reflect the short time allocated.
However, our curly cuts can’t be done quickly, so the price is charged accordingly. We can’t change how long the process takes, but we offer options to make it more flexible or cheaper. You can choose to leave with or without a dry or book a curly training separately. After all, not everyone needs or wants an entire training session alongside their cut.
Be Cautious of Overcharging
Unfortunately, some salons are taking advantage of the growing demand for curly services by overcharging or misleading by using the word Curl by Curl cutting. When visiting a new salon, your first question should be, How long does it take to cut my curly hair, and do you brush or comb out the curls to cut using combs? If the answer involves combs or brushing the hair, you’re not getting a true curl-by-curl cut.
Another red flag is when stylists charge more because they have an established clientele or have been in the industry for years. I believe that’s a rip-off. Just because a salon has expensive decor doesn’t mean the prices should be higher—don’t get fooled into paying extra for the furnishings! There are plenty of great cutters out there who don’t inflate their prices for the wrong reasons.
